SUMMARY:Acts of Resistance: 2SLGBTQ+ Self-Defence Workshop (In-Person\, UTSC)
DESCRIPTION:Acts of Resistance is a program for 2SLGBTQ+ community members to heighten their sense of self-trust and awareness of their environment. Join us in-person on June 28 at UTSC’s Catalyst Centre from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET. You can expect a combination of sit-down discussion\, games and physical self-defence practice. This workshop offers participants an opportunity to discuss personal safety issues and to practice easy to learn\, easy to remember self-defense techniques. \nThis class is designed to be physically accessible\, and to meet you and your body where you are\, as you are. Your instructor will take care to provide modifications to help make this class work best for you. \nPlease bring: \nComfortable workout clothes\nFlat\, closed-toe shoes (or be prepared to be in bare feet)\nA water bottle \nWe ask that you try to arrive to class at least 5 minutes early so that we can start on time. SUMMARY:General Rights of Women Experiencing Interpersonal Violence
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Family Care Office and the Community Safety Office\, this workshop is led by METRAC – Action on Violence. The workshop is open to all U of T community members who are interested in learning more about laws and supports for women experiencing interpersonal violence. The workshop will give attendees tools and knowledge to support others who are experiencing interpersonal violence and to seek supports if they are experiencing interpersonal violence. The workshop will cover: What are the general rights of women experiencing interpersonal violence\, rights of women at work\, getting help in court\, protection orders\, how police become involved\, getting legal help\, safety planning\, supports/ resources that are available. \nFacilitator:\nRiya Thomas is a Law student from the University of Toronto. Riya is doing a placement with Pro Bono Students Canada and METRAC. She will be present with her supervisors\, lawyers Andrea Collins-Fitzpatrick and Estella Muyinda\, who will be available to answer any questions. \nLocation: Online – The link will be shared with you via email prior to the session start time or arrangements will be made (see below). \nRegistration required: University of Toronto students\, staff\, postdoctoral fellows and faculty are welcome.
