Self Defense Courses


The Community Safety Office offers 2 different styles of Self Defense courses (Wen-Do Self Defense & Urban Defensive Tactics) . Courses are available throughout the year and are available to both women and men. Often courses are FREE or offered at a nominal fee for University community members.

Wen-Do, women's self defense, is a program designed for women, by women. Learn easy to use and easy to remember methods of protecting yourself in a wide range of situations. Techniques are designed for women of all ages, sizes, and abilities. A combination of discussion, with practical physical skills results in an integration of mental and physical preparedness. Wen-Do has three major goals: AWARENESS, AVOIDANCE, and ACTION.

WHAT TO BRING: Participants should wear loose comfortable clothing and running shoes.
Please Note: The participant must be 18 years or older at the time of the course OR the participant must be a student in order to register for the 1 or 2 day Wen-do course offered at the Athletic Centre.








WEN-DO for MOTHERS-DAUGHTERS
This two day course is not just for mothers-daughters. Bring along a niece, your friend’s child, your sister, your partner’s daughter.

PLEASE NOTE:
The child must be 10 years old at time of the course. The parent/guardian must sign a consent form for any participant under 18 years old in a mother/daughter course offered at the Athletic Centre.

SELF DEFENSE COURSE

Urban Defensive Tactics

Urban Defensive Tactics is a practical STREET oriented self-defense system that combines striking, ground defense, close quarter and weapon defense techniques. UDT is for men and woman and is geared for today's environment while employing man traditional concepts and philosophies. UDT teaches practical street awareness skills and self-defense skills for everyday settings. UDT will teach students to RECOGNIZE dangerous situations and AVOID those situations while relying on self-defense techniques as a last resort.
